A Rated Appliances
Keeping an eye on your energy consumption is not only a great way to save the planet from the ravages of global warming. It will help cut significant amounts from the cost of fuelling and powering your home too. Any modern household appliance, whether it is a washing machine or an oven, should come with a rating from the European Union and the Energy Saving Trust. This will tell you at a glance whether the product you are looking at is energy efficient and green or wasteful and expensive to run.
“A” rated appliances sit at the top end of this scale. The “A” indicates that they are the most energy efficient item that you can buy today in that particular category. There is usually a slightly different measurement for determining this rating depending on the type of item in question. For example, the “A” rating for a fridge freezer and other electrical appliances will be rated based on the basis of the kWh/year it uses. Refrigeration equipment even has an “A”++ score for highly efficient products.
It is now illegal to sell items which rank with less than a “D” on the scale. It is also a legal requirement for all companies selling any household items, including light bulbs and dishwashers, to display this energy rating. Also look out for the Energy Efficiency Logo which should be found on all items considered to be energy efficient by the Energy Saving Trust. “A” rated items can help pave the way for a greener future.
